medical specialist setting ketamine service expectations for young, smiling woman. For many people, knowing what to expect in ketamine therapy can help lessen the mystery and apprehension. Ketamine service expectations can be a factor in whether a person seeks treatment, so it is best to explain what to expect in ketamine therapy.

At TRU Wellness Center, we offer ketamine services to residents of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and the surrounding area. Our caring and professional specialists provide comprehensive outpatient and telehealth mental health treatment for those suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and similar behavioral health issues.

Ketamine infusion therapy is not suitable for everyone. Our goal is to provide individualized quality care to each client we serve. We will carefully assess your physical, mental, and emotional well-being before recommending ketamine infusion therapy. Call 888.680.7025 today to learn more about our programs and services, verify insurance, or get started with treatment.

What to Expect in Ketamine Treatment

There are four primary treatment stages, each with several steps.

1. Phone Intake

  • Our client experience coordinator will review your medical background and explain our process over the phone.

2. Pre-Infusion Appointments

  • A diagnostic assessment with one of our mental health providers to review psychological history, social history, medications, and to determine if you meet the criteria for ketamine infusion therapy. This is a telehealth appointment.
  • A telehealth appointment with one of our medical professionals to review your medical history and explain what to expect during ketamine infusion therapy.
  • Once you have been cleared for ketamine infusion therapy, we will schedule you for six infusions over a two-to-three-week period. If our providers feel ketamine infusion therapy is not suitable for you, they will offer you alternative options.

3. Initial Infusions

  • Each infusion for mental health conditions lasts approximately 40 minutes, but you should plan on being here for up to two hours.
  • Infusions take place in a private room which has a calming and therapeutic atmosphere. You may bring a book, music, tablet, and anything else you would like for comfort.
  • Prior to the infusion, an IV will be placed, and we’ll obtain your baseline vital signs.
  • During the infusion, our medical provider will monitor your vital signs and assess your comfort level on a continuous basis.
  • Possible side effects during the ketamine infusion include hypersensitivity to sounds and light, feeling tired, a “floating” sensation, nausea, etc.
  • Upon completion of the infusion, you will need approximately 30 minutes to recover before being discharged.
  • Driving a motor vehicle is prohibited for at least 12 to 24 hours after the infusion. All drivers must sign a consent before the patient can leave. We have special instructions when this is a ride-share driver (Uber, Lyft, Metro Mobility, etc.).

4. Maintenance Infusions (“Booster Infusions”)

  • The maintenance schedule varies for each patient.
  • Our staff will evaluate your progress and tailor the maintenance period based on your individual needs.
