WHAT IS A NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION?

A neuropsychological evaluation is an assessment of your brain function (how you think, remember, focus, concentrate, and make decisions etc.), which yields information about the functional integrity of your brain. The evaluation includes a consult and administration of various tests. The tests are typically pencil and paper type tests. The tests administered evaluate functioning in a number of areas to include:

  • Intelligence· Attention Memory
  • Language Perception Sensorimotor
  • Executive Functioning (ability to make decisions)
  • Motivation
  • Mood And Personality

A complete evaluation generally takes between three to eight hours to complete, depending on the complexity of the issues to be addressed. Most insurances cover the cost of this, some may require us to obtain prior authorization beforehand. Following the initial evaluation, you will be seen the following week by your neuropsychologist to discuss the results of the evaluation. With permission, the report can be shared with your referring practitioner.
